Men's Basketball 2010-11 Top 10 Highlights: No. 10-6

Continuing our four-day release of the "Top 10 Moments in Detroit Basketball- 2010-11", we look at Nos. 10-6 on the men's side.  It was a season of many highlights for the Titans, a few of them listed below.  We'll catch the top 5 of the women's season on Thursday with the finale on Friday and the top 5 men's highlights.

TOP TEN MOMENTS OF 2010-11 SEASON
10. Ray McCallum and LaMarcus Lowe Each with Career Highs in OT Win
LaMarcus Lowe, in his first start as a Titan, tallied a career-high eight blocked shots-- including three in overtime-- while Ray McCallum posted a career-best 31 points to lead the Titans to victory over Eastern Michigan, 68-65 on Dec. 11, 2010.  The block total helped Lowe rack-up 78 on the season-- fourth-most ever by a Titan in a single season.  McCallum's 31-point output was the highest by a Titan in '10-11 on his way to a team-best 446 (13.5 ppg) as a true freshman.

9. Detroit Hosts Legends Classic-- Nov. 26-28, 2010
Calihan Hall served as the host venue for one of the Legends Classic Subregionals.  Four teams (Albany, Bowling Green, Detroit and Niagara) each played three games in three nights in the post-Thanksgiving tourney.  Detroit junior center Eli Holman stole the show, claiming MVP honors after three straight double-doubles, averaging 17 points and 13 rebounds per contest.  Joining Holman on the all-tournament team was Nick Minnerath, who scored in double figures in all three games to help the Titans to a 3-0 weekend.

8. Titans Reach Horizon League Quarterfinals in Milwaukee.
With a convincing 90-69 win over Loyola in the Horizon League tournament first round, the Titans were off to Milwaukee for the quarterfinal round.  In the win over Loyola,  six different Titans scored in double figures, a feat that was not previously duplicated all season long.  Chase Simon's 19 points led the charge and his early hot hand-- he scored Detroit's first nine points-- was the catalyst to the win.

7. Two Titans Post Double-doubles in Same Game-- Twice
In a 96-77 win over Niagara on Nov. 28, two Titans recorded double-doubles when big men Eli Holman (11 points, 10 rebounds) and LaMarcus Lowe (12 pts, 10 rbs) turned the trick.  Holman would be in on another dual double-double in the regular season finale (Feb. 25) when he (19 pts, 11 rbs) and Nick Minnerath (13 pts, 11 rbs) did the honors.  On the season, Detroit produced 19 double-double efforts from four different players, led by Holman's league-leading 13.

6. Detroit Has 13 Games Televised During the Season.
UDM was featured on television 13 times in 2010-11.  Included in the schedule were six carried nationally by the ESPN family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and espn3.com).  Four more games were aired over regional cable outlet FOX Sports Detroit with three more shown on WADL-TV 38 as part of the Horizon League Game of the Week package.
