Senior Alainna Stefan On Training In Florida

Last week, our team traveled to sunny Florida for some quality practice and tournament competition. We began the first part of our trip by putting in some quality sessions at the Faldo Golf Institute in Orlando, a great facility with multiple short game areas, a huge driving range, and a 9-hole course for our team to use.

One of the highlights of the trip came on our second day, when the team got to meet and take a picture with golf legend Sir Nick Faldo. We were also privileged enough to play an 18-hole match against IPFW at Orange Tree Golf Club, one of Orlando’s championship courses. Even though our games were still a little rusty, we managed to begin the season right with a win.

The next couple days required us to quickly transition to a course a bit further away, Walkabout Golf Club, where we hosted the Sunshine Spring Classic. Again, the team didn’t play its best in this two-day tournament, but we were starting to get back in the swing of things and had a great time.

We were then on our way north to Jacksonville and began to prepare for Butler’s annual tournament. Typically, our team has finished well every year in this event, so this year we expected nothing less. Although it still wasn’t as good as we would have liked, we managed to finish fourth in the tournament, and first out of the Horizon Leagues that were there, including Butler, Cleveland State, Green Bay, Loyola and Youngstown State.

The tournament was a good preview for our conference championship in April, and showed us how much more work needs to be done before we can repeat as Horizon League champions.

The entire team is really excited for the weeks to come in April, with our eyes set on winning our conference again. Our next stop is in Fort Wayne, IN., for IPFW’s tournament on April 3 and 4.
